As everyone knows, I write The Jesting Fool with only one goal in mind: Rise far above the surrounding swampy cesspool of Internet content and Provide a thoughtful, balanced, and informative approach to theological issues, philosophical discussions, and a wide range of current events.
So when I hear that Scott Roeder filed a habeas corpus petition saying that his rights have been violated, I of course respond fairly and don’t say anything that might influence readers to kidnap Roeder and shove needles into his eyes.
I also don't deface pictures of him.
According to the petition (which was apparently filed back in February), Roeder finds fault with his $20 million bond, the judge’s suggestion that if released he might get violent again, and prosecutors who have made “libelous allegations” against him – e.g., when District Attorney Nola Foulsen said that a “reasonable person” would believe that he had committed “alleged acts of American terrorism.”
My God. Since when is walking into a church and capping a guy point-blank considered terrorism? Tiller performed late-term abortions and was therefore a murderer himself. Roeder’s act was obviously justifiable homicide.
And whatever happened to the presumption of innocence, anyways?
This is serious. Libel is a serious thing. Saying bad things about people is simply unacceptable. Instead of using words as a way to vent your anger and state your point of view, it’s much better to just blow stuff up and kill people. For a long time now, I have been trying to reconcile my use of violent rhetoric with my reluctance to use actual violence – but like being stuck between a big rock and another big rock, it’s difficult to escape the realization that I’m not being consistent with myself.
But you, Scott – you are consistent. Thanks for inspiring so many people by your action. Scott, the people who say hurtful things about you are misguided. They have no right to simply criticize you for standing up for your beliefs and murdering somebody because he cruelly took the lives of innocent little inhuman blobs of bloody faceless flesh… no, what they should really do is murder you.
And every shit-slurping slimefucker associated with this website, too.
